BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR 9-12 GRADERS
Reference Books
Kort, Michael. A Handbook on the Former Soviet Union. The Millbrook Press, 1997. 239 pp.
In the first part of this volume, the history of each new state is discussed before a cogent analysis of their most serious current economic, political, and cultural issues is made. Another substantial section is an encyclopedia with entries on places and terms as well as identifications of individuals in the political and cultural sphere. The writing style is engaging. There is also a ten-page section of maps and flags plus a chronology (1985-1997). Strongly recommended.
